I was thrilled when Julie of Shoot Photo Inc. offered to shoot professional headshots of me. I’ve had family portraits done but it’s been a long time since I had headshots done. Her studio is in beautiful Leesburg which meant a nice trip out to the country and one of the very few mama breaks I allow myself. Being a bootstrapping solopreneur I forwent the makeup artist she recommended (which I later regretted when I realized my Bare Minerals was completely caked on) but I love how the pictures turned out despite my lack of professional makeup help.
Julie is a true professional and there’s nothing better than working with a photographer who isn’t afraid to tell you a certain angle doesn’t work for you, fix your hair, tell you to smile more, smile less, and just plain old help a girl feel confident. We don’t need someone to blow sunshine up our skirts on picture day, right girls? We need someone to make us look good! I’m naturally very uncomfortable in front of the camera and Julie was great at getting me to loosen up. Her conversation helped me feel at ease and it made the whole process a lot easier.
I was thrilled with the experience from beginning to end and will be forever grateful that Julie invited me for headshots, especially because we’ve got a conference coming up and this girl needed something a little better than an old selfie for promotional materials! Give Julie a shout on Facebook if you like – she does really cool workshops, one I want to attend is a workshop on getting amazing pictures of your kids! Sometimes she offers discounts on her Facebook and to Femworking members!
So what do you think? You likie me headshots? Have you had yours done recently? What was it like? Is anyone as uncomfortable in front of the camera as I am?
